As a Childbirth Doula, I support families during one of the most important time in their lives; the preparation, labor process, and birth of their baby. I provide emotional, physical, and spiritual support to make the birth process all that it can be for the whole family. Meeting women just where they are in labor and supporting them to birth their baby is a privilege and honor. Every birth I attend is such a MIRACLE of life.
I provide education to help expectant parents prepare for labor and help them clarify their thoughts and feelings. In talking and sharing with each other my hope is to allow you to see your own needs and desires for your upcoming labor and birth. I feel your birth wishes will empower you in labor to make the choices that are right for you.
I want to support the expectant father to allow him to be there in a loving and supportive manner, he brings the one thing no one else can with his love and support. I bring a collaborative spirit to my support of laboring women; working in harmony with the birth team to allow the mother to feel totally supported and loved. This will allow her to trust the natural process of birth and just be....... Go into what I call "labor land" and do what her body needs to do.
Birth is unpredictable, yet magical, and the journey of labor is the most empowering experience I have ever known. I want ever woman to experience that magic.
No matter what labor brings you it is your "birth experience" and I want to help make that birth experience a positive and memorable one. I feel your birth experience will remain one of your most empowering and memorable events of your life.
My philosophy is "informed choice", and believes as long as a woman has the information to make informed decisions, along the way in labor, that is what defines a positive birth experience. This can be in regards to the benefits and risks of medication in childbirth or any obstetrical intervention.
I started my birth work in 1999 to support the family circle of love, by nurturing women and their families before during and after the arrival of their baby/babies and help ease the transition into motherhood.
In my role as a birth and postpartum doula I have completed both birth and postpartum certification trainings. I have continued my education credits in labor support, as well as breastfeeding support, infant development, postpartum care and postpartum depression. I worked at Waterbirth International and gained knowledge not only in all aspects of birth but especially in water birth.
I have volunteered in a program at Kaiser Hospital that focused on V-backs (vaginal birth after cesarean) and teen mothers. I supported local homes for teens and volunteered in their pregnancy programs as well as currently serve on Birth Support Groups through out the community.
In over 200 births, I have supported clients in natural, medicated, and cesarean births and in both hospitals and homebirths. I always feel honored to be a part of such a miracle.... The birth of a child !!!!
I am a wife, mother, and grandmother foremost in my life. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have 2 wonderful children who have given us 3 precious grandsons and twins on the way. I never thought anything could be better than being a mother, but being a grandmother is just an extension of being a mother, and better yet I get to share it with my children.
I love to slow down the pace of life and enjoy spending time with my family and friends more than anything, and cherish our time together. I enjoy sewing, camping, swimming, hiking, snowshoeing, trips to the beach, and attending school and sports events with my grandchildren.
My personal life motto is "God, Family and Friends is what life is all about" and supporting families allows me to be who I am to help others. I feel very blessed to serve families in such a special time in their lives. I get the chance to watch women become mothers and men become fathers, and watch as together they become parents.
Enjoy your Journey into Parenthood, and Happy Birthing.
